Kitty's Massage Time!!

You will sometimes see cats knead on the ground, comforter, pillows or sofa in front of them. This kneading is a pushing action which many of them have done since they were babies fighting for mom's milk. It is the easy motion the place where a kitty alternates pressing lower on a single foot after which another, switching backwards and forwards.

The kneading motion with the forepaws is often done when the cat is in a pleased or in a happy mood. The behavior is also called milk-treading, paddling or making biscuits! It's their way of expressing love and affection. My cats get glassy-eyed and knead something soft when they get sleepy. My cats like to do it on my stomach too! My cat Chummy is the Queen of kneaders. Check out this video!

The main objective was to record the kneading. But, Amarise thought it's not cute.
(Chummy unhurt, dont worry :)

Interesting Cat Facts

  1. Though cats can see up to 120 feet away, they can't see detail very well.
  2. Cats hate the scent of lemon and orange, so if you want your cat to stay away from a piece of furniture, spray it with either of these scents.
  3. Cats are red/green color blind.
  4. Cats sleep around 16 hours per day. This means that a 7 year old cat has only been awake for 2 years of its life.
  5. A cat will spend approximately 10,950 hours of it's life purring.
  6. 7% of cats snore when they sleep.
  7. The oldest cat on record was from England, and lived to be 36 years old.
  8. Cats have 32 muscles in each ear.
  9. If you want a cat to come to you, look away from it. Looking directly at the cat is seen as a threatening gesture.
  10. Cats are very vocal creatures. The more you talk to your cat, the more they'll "talk" back to you.

When Your Cat Can't Stop Scratching

Does your cat scratch a lot? Or your cats over-groom for more than hygiene which can result in injury from excessive licking, biting, and results bald patches or redness to the skin. Have your vet check for dermatological problems or parasites first, as all these need to be treated. Skin infection (fungus), lice, fleas and ticks can be a reason.

Skin infection (fungus),
Usually if you bring them to the vet, the vet will examine and screening you cat using UV light. From UV, you can see the a glowing green spot (protein) at the skin which indicate the fungus existence. Some medicated shampoo routine will be advised and medicated cream or solution to apply to treat fungus. I use Malaseb Shampoo and NaturalPet antifungal lotion.
Flea, ticks and lice:
You can check your cat at home by yourself. Screening over the furs and you can find a dirt like black dots or reds one or “moving” dandruff between the skin. For white coat cat, it may easy to see but for colored fur, you may take a damp white cloth and wipe on you cat coat. You may see the black or red dot. That is your enemies. I’m using Frontliner Spray and Spot on. It’s promising and effective.

Controlling an Outbreak:
The eggs or spores can be transferred from a pet to anything in your house like carpets and household furniture. It is recommended which you also treat the home and check out other animals. Vacuum cleaning, disinfect the house and cages will do. I use Petdiatric Black Series to disinfect.  Bear in your mind, there could be an issue of excessive stress. If your cat is grooming too much because of stress, such as a change in routine or a new animal in the house, you can take steps to ease the problem.

Good Luck!

Play Time~

All cats love the feather teaser. I keep on buying the new one every 2 month because it wont last so long.  I never tire watching them play and do their thing. Each of them has a different personality and style.  This time I want to introduce my kids toys: If  they are not sleep or busy destroying my toilet paper and magazines and messing our home, they must be busy playing with their toys.

First one is ToyToy. We get it from Pets Wonderland since Chika complain he need friend for his brain development. Chika loves to ask me to play with ToyToy: The Catch me game. He will jump over the couch and coffee table untill he out of his breath and start to make a funny sound. When Chika was a kitten, he used to do back flips trying to get at ToyToy. Sometimes he can play with ToyToy alone!! After playing "Catch me", He will bite and parade with ToyToy in his mouth around the house and bragging his success! Even when ToyToy's body parts is now a part, Chika still in love with ToyToy!!After drooling around with ToyToy he will groom ToyToy as he grooms himself.

Pinka on the other hand is a bad toy! This fish-shape pillow always manipulate Chippy and Chumy to be in the carrier for Vet visit.

Pinka always use her Catnip perfume and manipulate Chippy and Chummy but wont stop them to chase after a laser pointer.  If there's one toy cats never seem to tire of, it must be a laser pointer.

And then we have ShhhShhh and Blackie where we brought back from Ikea. Both are meant for Choco.

Everyone know Choco will play rough and bite us like a pugs! So ShhhShhh and Blackie is our victim to protect our finger from Choco's teeth! Sorry guys. Its really effective during the grooming session.

Amarise love to play with a ping pong balls and she never seem to get tired of playing. I make sure they always have something new and challenging to play with. Cat toys don't cost a lot, so reward and challenge your Cat with something new to play! Now I have to buy some toy for Cottilion since she keep stealing others toy and messing with my small garden!
Hmmm.. Any ideas??

Stud Tails

At first, i thought that neutered cat wont face this kind of problem. I'm wrong. turn out that stud tail is quite normal if you own a male cat. Neutered or not. Its perfectly normal but if it left untreated, the tail will get greasy and start losing hair. If you realize, there is a dark pigmentation of the skin too.

My lovely Chika now look like a chicken! He is so fat but the tail is bald. Check out the pic..

Currently I'm using dish washing liquid to remove the dirt and oil, and quickly wash and rinse it before shampooing. If there is no improvement, i'll treat it with GOOP. Thats what Jimmy Lee taught us during Grooming Class. And as a precautionary i have sprinkled talc into the area to absorb oils and brushed it out after the bath..

Stud tail. Should dea with it before it is too late ;P
Let see if there is any improvement~

The day. The big day!!

I try to believe that she is just a heavy eater. She eats a lot and purrs all the time. I thought in the first place she may be on heat. But she did not even took a glance at my neutered prince. She just loves to eat. We feed our kids with IAMS kitten and she never left anything in her bowl. She just finished it all. We even send her for vaccinations.

Until one day friend of mine pay a visit and try to convince me that she is pregnant! OMG! I just moved in to my new apartment and am still trying to adjust myself and the cat that i took in for less than 2 months is pregnant! i'm about to have babies of my cat! I dont know how i felt at that time.. a part of me is blooming happily but a part of me is full with worries. I have another 2 cats of mine. and i will have another kittens? So later i will have 6 cats? and i'm living in apartment! Yes I'm worried.

Day after day, and in no time her tummy is getting bigger and bigger and she become more friendly. Her appetite grew bigger and she eats more and more, until on this one Friday there was still kibbles in her bowl. Her tail is wet and i think her water just broke. So I brought her to my cat spa to shave her tummy. Back at home, i cage her with boxes and blanket to make her comfortable and feels safe. Every hour i check on her but nothing happen. On the 28th, Joey was so excited that the babies would have the same birthday as him. But again nothing happen.

Next day, I started to worried and started doing more research. I know that she may faced a false pregnancy but the most thing i worried is if something goes wrong with the babies inside. Then after work i decide to send her to our vet for scanning but once i reach home she wanted me to stay with her in the bedroom. i went to my wardrobe but she insisted that i stayed with her.

After changed i lay next to her in my bedroom then she start to breath heavily..some fluid and a little blood started to dirt on the towel. and the first baby comes out in the sac struggling be be out. I try to calm my queen even i'm a lil panic because this is my first time faced this miracle of birth. Amarise look confuse. She even hissing at her baby. but after few minutes she smell the kitten and start to lick him up.

My 2 other cat wait outside my bedroom. I just want Amarise felt safe and secure. Then Joey is back and come into the room. Then the second contraction is coming. She stop lick her 1st baby and she purring again. Another sac is out and Joey reach the second kitten to Amarise.

The kitten is crying out loud and only be silent after been lick by Amarise. Amarise clean up the baby. She start to eat the placenta. I help up to cut the cord with clean scissor. We document the scene with Joey's iphone. My cat-fancy friend Ash also there for support. Amarise start to show her motherhood and start to nursing the baby.

After 10 minutes she starts her 3rd contraction. Her breath getting heavily. She purring and this time the larger sac is out. The 3rd kitten is out. The baby is bigger than the other. She clean the baby and put the baby together with the 1st and 2nd one.

She start to clean herself..
